Sailing Across the Divide
If you are reading this, you are probably struggling to cross the divide between where you are now, and where you want to be. This struggle might come with a range of unpleasant experiences like: high levels of anxiety, panic attacks, depressed mood, chronic worry, low self-esteem, lack of joy, even numbness.
Perhaps you can’t seem to stop a cycle of unhelpful, or even destructive behaviour; you keep deciding to change and it just doesn’t seem to happen. You might know what you want and what you need to do to get there, but you just can’t seem to find the motivation to make it happen. Or perhaps your problem is that you don’t know what you want!
All of these issues can often affect and be affected by your relationships with other people. You might isolate yourself, experience excessive conflict in relationships, or perhaps your connection with others feels empty or weak. Often the intimate relationships are the most affected. You might struggle to enter them, stay in them, or express yourself effectively within them.
As a therapist, my aim is to both support and challenge you in sailing across the divide between where you are now, and where you want to be, so it is important to be familiar with your vessel. You will want to understand the conditions in which you travel, and to know the direction in which you want to move. As you build your resources, and broaden your repertoire of skills, you will know when you have what you need in order to navigate without my assistance, through even the wildest storms with confidence and grace.

Psychotherapy is a specialised conversation that takes place in the context of a confidential relationship between client and therapist. EMDR is a technique that is used to aid the brain in processing memories (both conscious and unconscious). EMDR has been most researched for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. However, it can also be used for a range of other issues including: phobias, sleep disorders, grief and addiction.
